You probably won't be able to bring 3 days worth of water. (When I was living in the desert for two months, we drank at LEAST four quarts of water per day to stay hydrated.) You can bring iodine and put four to six drops in every quart of water you get from a stream. It's best if the water is moving/looks clean, and if you have a thin handkerchief, you can even filter it through. Most of the time, the water tastes just fine. As for food, we never used any bread because it goes bad quickly and gets squashed. Trail mix is good, but to keep up your energy and really feel full, I would recommend rice, potatoes and beans. Don't bring anything in a can; that is just WAY too heavy. Rice you can cook in a pot (I never used a lid), just bring the water to a boil and add the rice, stir, and it's usually done in about 10-15 minutes. Potatoes take longer- 15-20 minutes. I always brought dehydrated refried beans. Don't bring regular beans from the store unless you plan on soaking them all day and waiting for them to take an hour to cook. If you want easy meals, there's always oatmeal and brown sugar, 5 minute pasta/rice packets, or spam for a meat. (Summer sausage is spectacular! If you get this, slice it, put it on a stick and roast over the fire) I definitely agree that less is more as far as clothes go. Bring one change of clothes apart from what you're wearing. You'll feel gross anyway without a shower for three days. But, bring three days worth of clean underwear and four pairs of clean socks, just in case. You'll have so much fun! Camping is the best! Good luck-

trail mix is actually fairly good. energy bars are also, although i don't care for most of 'em. clearly you don't want to have only that. what you will want is water. crackers are probably not a good idea -- take up more space than the calories in 'em are worth. you could pack some bread, and jars of p/b and jelly. or that mixed stuff. and water. watch out for salt. you'll get enough even if you're careful not to take salty food. it'll just make you more thirsty. oh, btw, did i say water? have a good trip. also, you'll pack too much clothing. less is better. and lighter. oh, to make up for the weight you're saving, pack more water. ;-)
