Well first off, mosquitoes an inevitable. However, if you are near water they tend to be worse so stick to wooded areas. Don't forget your bug spray and you will be fine. As far as where to go, check out the National Forests and State Parks in your area. Both are great for camping and you can find lots of information on the following sites: http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/map/state_list.shtml#Michigan http://www.nps.gov/state/mi/index.htm?program=parks Or, there are KOA campgrounds which are privately owned but I tend to prefer national forests and state parks to the KOAs.

I'm in Texas and we have lots of mosquitoes in the Eastern and Southern parts of the State. The only place I can go camping in Texas is in arid to semi-arid regions. I have found this to be true in any State that I've camped in. I am not familiar enough with Michigan to recommend a location, but any area that is high altitude or cold temperatures or semi-arid to arid will help eliminate your bug problems.

If you're looking for designated campgrounds vs. getting off the beaten path and finding your own spot, you should look through the following index of camp sites for the UP. http://www.superiortrails.com/camping-directory.html As far as dealing with mozzies, you should always plan on there being some when the temps start to warm up. Take some fragrance free off for personal use or get yourself a ThermaCELL that will repel up to 15 feet. http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/ Happy Camping!

I referred you to the Michigan DNR site in your earlier question. I will add here that you are not going to find any place in Michigan that doesn't have mosquitos in the summer, and you may run into sand fleas on the beach. It should be especially bad this year due to all the rain and standing water in the low lying swamps along the Michigan lakeshores. If that bothers you, you should plan to camp in a desert state like New Mexico or Arizona or at high altitudes like in the Rocky Mountains where the nights are too cold for them.

J-Bird is incorrect, mosquitoes are not inevitable. These little blood sucker require standing water to breed. Avoid camping near ponds, lakes, large rivers, and wetlands if not feeding the mosquitoes is a priority. Fast moving streams, the kind favored by trout, rarely mosquito issues.
