Big Bend National Park Big Bend Ranch State Park Two places big enough to get 'lost' in...either one of them is more than you can see in a week...Google 'em both.... Then there is Guadalupe Peaks on the Texas/New Mexico border ...

Possom Kingdom Lake, 2.5 hours NW of Dallas at most. You need to stay at the State Park on the West side. Largest man made lake in Texas, built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1930's, so it would have been Roosevelt time. It has great hiking because it's hilly, plus the State Park is a wild life reserve. The water is clear! There is somewhere between 25-50ft visibility depending on the rain season. The lake is fed by the Brazos River which may be the reddest river I have ever seen. You can rent a canoe at the same park for maybe $10 an hour. You can either rent a cabin (not my favorite), or set up tent at one of the sites. Reserve 101 if possible, as early as possible. It's shaded, secluded, and there is a gorgeous rock path leading down to the water. It's maybe 20 feet from the lake. The prices are very reasonable. If you are planning on fishing you NEED to have a license. The Fish and Game Warden take their jobs super seriously. At night, every star shines so brightly and you can pick out constelations and different planets very easily. Be on the lookout for fossils and geodes. I have found many ammonite fossils, not to mention that the rock there is predominantly limestone. Indian arrow heads, rattlers from rattle snakes. If you want to really get in touch with nature, and if you want your body to rejuvinate, that is the place for you. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/parkguide/rgn_pp_008.phtml photo's-http://media.point2.com/p2a/htmltext/99be/1edf/e7a6/9af257bf918fad9b4afc/original.jpg this is what your view from the shore would look like- http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2149/2356870902_9572e81b80.jpg http://www.mannphoto.com/dorba/pk/PK6x4.jpg
