Bears are excellent climbers and Mamma Bear will sent the cubs up to ride your food bags to the ground. Proper bear proof storage is available, use it for everything. Do not even keep empty food wrappers in your tent unless you want company.

Yes, bears would love to get your peanuts. Just think of opening a new can of peanuts and how wonderful they smell. Never keep anything with a scent in your tent, including things like Chapstick and the aforementioned toothpaste.

No. No. No. Bears can smell and home in on food 20 miles downwind.

No. No food should be kept in your tent or backpack. Rodents and mountain goats are more likely to be a nuisance than bears, but take no chances. I have never had a bear in any remote dispersed camp. However, while I was backpacking last year, a town bear smashed the rear window of my car in order to take a bite out of a box of tissues. Bears who are trained to eat trash are attracted to many kinds of scents. Peanuts are definitely an interesting supplement to the diet of wild animals. You could wake up with a chipmunk, raccoon, or marmot nibbling on your nuts after taking a bite out of your tent. Since I have never had a troublesome experience in my campsites, I simply keep my overnight food in a separate waterproof sack and use cord to secure it over a tree branch remote from my tent. I never had a problem in dispersed campsites, although I have seen black bears scavenging in developed campgrounds where I tented. One cub was digging in every campfire ring because careless campers left food waste around the fire. I do not even make campfires to avoid creating food smells in my campsites. I cook on a small backpacking stove and keep a clean camp. Sea to Summit dry bags for food storage are about $20 each. Bear storage containers are about $80 each. Ursack bear-resistant bags of Spectra fabric are $70 each.

No do not keep any food or smelly items in a tent. Bears have a very keen sense of smell. A few years back up on the San Gorgonio Mtn. A young boy scout was dragged out of his tent and attacked over a peanut candy bar. So if it has a tasty scent it goes in the bear bag or canister like anything else. Even tooth paste, I have read of several reports of back packs left out that had tooth paste in them torn apart by bears.
