Cool things to bring camping....?

  • along the lines of like survival things. i always bring my knife, but any other cool things like that to bring?

    Magnesium block and flint are cool. Carve shavings off of the magnesium block into a pile in the middle of your tinder. Strike the flint so the sparks ignite the magnesium. Watch out, it burns bright and hot. It will ignite even in damp conditions. Multi-tools, like Gerber or Leatherman, are useful, especially the pliers. I will take a good head-lamp at night over a hand held flashlight as it keeps my hand free and I don't drool over my stuff while holding the flashlight in my mouth.

I never go camping without: - string, or spare tent guy ropes (either for your tent or rigging up a nice tripod over your campfire) - duct tape (you can use this for anything and everything - taping rips in your tent/bag, binding split tent poles, you can make anything from it and it's waterproof - many a time i've been in a tent held up only by duct tape) other useful stuff: -fishing line (can be used for fishing, or as string) -wire -needle and thread (for your bag or your clothes) -whistle and compass -flint is useful but definitely practice first -don't forget a basic first aid kit -spare tent pegs (again useful for rigging up any structures) Have fun!
