What do I need to bring to a camping trip?

What type of things wil I need to bring on a camping trip?

  • I've never been camping before. What should I bring?

  • Answer:

A nice sized tent is helpful as are sleeping bags, some are pricey and some are not, I'd rather spend a little more money and buy a better quality brand then go for the lower quality low priced stuff,I trying to say, don't go for the cheapest camping gear, and not the most expensive, I always go in between the medium price range. every year I always buy a couple of new items to add to my camping gear.A nice canopy tent like the pop up ones is always handy, I have one that I only paid 89 dollars and change for from wal-mart,its called the "First Up" brand, a wonderful addition to any campsite to keep over your eating area in case in should rain. Well the other answers so far are good general ideas. As an avid camper/backpacker (i do one or the other almost every weekend) I could give you a really complete idea of things, but the fact of the matter is that it all depends on where you are going and what type of experience you are looking for. There are many different definitions of what "camping" is. Re you going to be near your vehicle, then for your first trip I would say bring some comfort items, then if you enjoy it on each successive trip try leaving one comfort item at home, before you know it you may want to try backpacking where you go out for a long distance and are completely surrounded by nature with a minimum of equipment. Here a a few website links to get you an Idea http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/Checklists.htm http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/index.htm http://camping.about.com/xchklist.htm Also explore the sites and find some good information http://camping.about.com/ Hope this helps. Have a great trip and enjoy yourself.

Mainly just food, water, matches/lighter, kindling (newspaper, etc.), a tent, sleeping bags, trash bags, and a knife. You can bring wood or find dead branches around the campsite. You should also bring flashlights. What to bring depends largely on where you are camping, who you are with, and what you intend to do.

Hello, Aside from the essential things (like a tent and sleeping bag), the rest depends on where you're going, how long, and what comfort-items you want. Look at the checklist pages below to help you brainstorm. Hope that helps. Have a great trip! - Mike

You should talk with the other people you will be camping with. Most camping equipment is best when split between people. You can share a tent with a friend. You can use one tarp shelter for 4 or 5 people. A camp stove can be enough for the whole campsite. Cooler and food is easier when multiple go in together. You will personally need: toilet paper water bottle flashlight clothes sleeping bag backpack or two to hold it all

Well if you are going to a more modest camp ground which I am assuming because it is your first time camping I would bring a tent unless you have some other sort of shelter that is built for camping. I would gusse there are public restrooms on the grounds if it is more modest and would no worry about bringing any toilet paper or using leafs. So heres just a simple list of what you might need. -Tent -Sleeping bag(s) -Hammer (to stake the tent) -Flash light to see at night. -Food -Portable stove if you plan on not using a fire pit to cook all of your meals. -Miniature propane tank for the stove -WATER! All the rest you might need are stuff you might be doing while you ar camping. You might forget a few things but learn for next time what you need. If you are doing more of a do it yourself camping along a river you should try to pack light and have enough food for the whole trip.
