How to make my motorcycle faster?

  • Hi, I just got a 1995 Yamaha xt 350, it has about 4000 miles on it. it is a very clean and in very good shape and I was wondering how can I make it faster, please help!!

    You can get more power from the XT Yamaha power plant by getting a better cam shaft, raise the compression ratio with a new piston, having a larger inlet valve and a good performance head job done and a larger carby fitted. Against that is the cost of the labor and parts, but the parts a redably available if you have the cash. But it still won't perform like a modern duel purpose bike in the other areas like handling, braking and suspension, so if I was thinking of doing it I might look at it as a 'project' and a head turner. If all you want is a faster bike then trade it or sell it to get a more updated bike. Changing the carby jets as suggested in the first answer won't gain anything, you will loose power and fuel economy given that the jets are original sizing. Hope that explains it to you.

Ditto first answer. Its 18 years old & was never really built to be a fast bike in the first place. You could the price of the bike 10 fold & gain just a few more miles per hour.

Trade it in on a faster bike. Seriously, there isn't a lot to be done with that engine. You can put a different exhaust and change the carb jetting which will gain a bit of power, but the cost would outweigh the small performance gain you would see. Actually the factories do a pretty good job of getting about all of the power out of these engines that there is to get. A big bore kit would give you more low end power for hill climbing and things like that, but not really going to make that bike into much more than what it is.
