The real world difference is that a 4 stroke has a much wider powerband than a 2 stroke which makes it both easier to ride for beginners and easier to go fast on for people of all skill levels. Most 2 strokes make usable power from the middle of the RPM range to the top while most 4 stroke race bikes make power throughout almost the entire RPM range. This simply means that usable power is basically always on tap when riding a 4 stroke. All pro racers and almost every amateur racer is on a 4 stroke. There is no debate about which is faster on the track. Like it or not, 4 strokes dominate the sport now.

a 2 stroke fires once every 2 strokes 4 strokes fire once every 4 strokes. a 2 stroke will go out twice as fast but run twice as fast compared to the same displacement as a 4 stroke and you have to mix oil with the gas to run it. a 4 stroke is more reliable with less maintenance. a ez way to tell on motorcycles is if the exhaust is really fat and makes a annoying sound it is a 2 stroke if not you have a 4 stroke.
