Can I play PC games or online games on a mac?

I have a mac, will i still be able to play pc games on steam though?

No, having Steam will not let a Mac play a PC game. You can use Wine like you said, but Wine generally causes lag, or at least for me it did. Your best bet is to get a copy of Windows XP or 7, or wait for 8 and use Bootcamp to dual boot your Mac with Windows.
