What hardware would I have to buy to speed up PC games?

    Since you specifically asked about hardware, I won't bore you with how to clean your PC up with software (registry cleaners can be dangerous actually so don't use them!). The single most important piece of hardware you need to be looking at is a new graphics card as it's going to be the biggest bottleneck in 3D games. If you're PC has a PCI-express slot ( it should if your PC is from 2004 or later) then you're in business because ATI just launched their Radeon 4800 series recently and the 4850 model is the best sub-$200 card to come out in a long, long time. It will play almost any game out today as long as your CPU isn't archaic (Pentium 3 or earlier). If you're PC doesn't have a PCI-express slot then it may have an AGP slot (advanced graphics port) which is an older graphics interface that is not even technically supported anymore today. If this is the case, you're still in luck because unlike Nvidia, ATI was great about supporting the AGP interface as long as they could. Only their latest and greatest cards have dropped support for this interface which means you can still find a Radeon 3850 AGP card for $130 or so without much trouble. It's a very good card that should improve your frame rate in 3D games substantially, especially if your using integrated graphics at the moment. Installing either card is a simple task that anyone can do. If you have an older Nvidia or ATI card already installed you need to go to add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall the driver. After that open up your case and unplug the old card and replace it with new card. Boot up windows and place the included disc into your DVD/CD ROM drive to install the drivers and software. After rebooting once your new card is ready to use. If you only have standard PCI expansion slots and don't have either a PCI-express or AGP slot in your PC then you should just bite the bullet and buy a whole new computer if you're serious in the least bit about playing modern 3D games. It's only going to get worse for you otherwise. Hope this helps.
