What do you need to have a good/great PC system ready to play PC games?

About any computer that has been maxed out for that purpose. Most any modern computer today has enough processor power to get the job done. The next thing is to max out memory and use a top line video card. The operating system is the next concern and Vista sucks for a game machine. My main game machine uses both XP Pro and SE so I can boot up in either. Then you can prune the system by (in the case of SE) shutting off everything but Explorer and System. The less stuff left running in the background the better.

This would depend on your budget. If you want a pc where you can games with little to no problem, then you might want to consider purchasing an alienware system (meaning either a desktop one or a laptop). Their pcs are great for gaming and other stuff.
