How do you play PS2 games online with PS3 80gb?

Can a PS3 System 80GB or 160 GB Play ps2 Games?

  • I want to buy a ps3 either the 40gb,80gb,or 160gb but need to be able to play my ps2 games on it as well. Which ps3 system can do this please let me know Thanks!

    It's my understanding that the 160 GB PS3 are not backwards compatible and the newer model 80 GB PS3s are no longer backwards compatible. I confirmed this on the playstation website. No PS3 that is currently in production is backwards compatible.

The 80 and 160 gb that you can find on store shelves now CANNOT play PS2 games. Only the PS3s that have 4 USB ports in the front can play PS2 games. That would be the 20, 60, and old 80 gb (the one that comes with Motorstorm or Metal Gear Solid 4).

They are not ALL compatible. You can even google it. Only the ps3 with the 4 usb ports have it. Ones on store shelves, do not have it. No, they are only backwards compatible for ps2 if they are one of the first ones made. Sony dumped that ability for the ability to play blu-ray.They are all ps1 compatible however.

They will but ONLY if they are the older "fat" models. Slims are not backwards compatible. The fat model will be considerably heavier/larger and have 4 usb ports on the front.

None of those play PS2 games only the old 80GB model and the 60GB model which is not made anymore play PS2 games.

Dont listen to any half of these people there all wrong... the newer ps3 no matter what model does not play ps2 games... only the launch 60gb and 20gbs have that ability cause the hardware was built in...
