Answer:
Game suggestion: Viva Pinata, my kids love it (ages 15, 12, and 8) and it doesn't seem too hard. Accessories suggestion: wireless headset, charge & play kit, if he plans on playing on line, the wireless network adapter, and Microsoft Points Card, and since He will have to pay for Gold Membership to Xbox live after the one month free that the 360 will come with, maybe get him a Gold Membership subscription card, they go in increments of 1, 3, and 12 months. In the long run you pay more going month to month, it's better just to get 12 months all at once.

The best accessory would be a rechargable battery (and the charger). Batteries add up, quick, so this is the most cost effective thing you can do. If he uses the "online" feature, you can get him points for the xbox live marketplace (it has small "arcade" games you can get there, as well as movies), or an "Xbox Gold Membership" (Let's him play multiplayer online). As for games: Check the back. If it says something in green, it's what can be done on one console, if it's in orange, it can be done online. So if it says "1-4 players" in orange, you two can't play together. If it says "Co-op 1-2" in green, then THAT is what you want, because "Co-op" let's you play the storyline together. If it just says "1-2 players", it will just be select features, like fighting each other. Most games have scalable difficulty levels, so that you can just stick it on "Easy" or "Casual", and the enemies won't fight back. Basically, racing games are good for learning the controls, and Halo is good for learning how to shoot (he probably already owns at least one of the Halo games, check). The 360 has a feature to generalize the controls in those two genres because they're always so similar to each other. After you learn the controls for those two types of games, most games should be easy for you. I honestly can't name any "Beginner Games", but if you check the "ESRB Rating" on the front bottom corner (It will either be E, E10, T, M, or AO), and if it's E-T, it's relatively easy. These ratings are INTENDED to be used as a guideline for how appropriate it is for children (E.G. Grand Theft Auto is M for "Mature", and legally you must be 18 to buy it, where as "Age of Empires" is T for Teen, and anyone can buy it), they can still be used as a general difficulty guideline, because no one who wants to make money designs an "E" game that's next to immpossible to beat.

I'm assuming that you are getting him an Xbox 360, if not, this answer is not helpful (lol). If you are getting him Xbox Live, he will need a headset, definitely. Also, some good buys are a play and charge kit (roughly $20) and a second controller ($40-$60). If you aren't getting him a console with a hard drive, then get him a hard drive or memory card (hard drive is better, because it has more space (duh :P)) Other than that, there aren't that many accessories that I have found useful. As for games, it all depends on what he likes. Batman: Arkham Asylum is coming out in 2009 (no specific date set yet), which you could reserve at gamestop for him. If he is into football, Madden '09 is out, or if he likes first person shooters Call Of Duty: World at War is out. Both games got good reviews, and I love call of duty. Honestly, for games, go to game stop and have them suggest some games based on your hubby's interests. Most of all, have a good Christmas and try and enjoy it with him!
