Now America could feed the world, however, that is because the unique American system of government and business collaborated to do teh research that has improved agriculture world wide. Also remember that there are approximately 6,000,000 americans involved in the production of raw agricultural products and another 50 million or so involved in the processing, transport and transformation of raw agricultural products into processed foods (like milk, juice, hotdogs, etc). Without the research and the infrastructure, the productivity that allows us to produce more food than we need wouldn't exist. Your assumption here is that innovation would have happened as quickly without the US. This assumption is wrong.

Well yes and no because if it was used for global farming the crisis in haiti and other places would not exist and everyone would have enough food. But another way to use this abundance of land might be to (if no one lived here) to spread out people and give mother nature more room to grow things and to keep the cycle going. Also with people all around the world being more spaced out pollution would be reduced.
