    In the US, I think over 85% of the soybean and nearly 50% of the corn acres are treated with Roundup (not sure how many cotton acres are treated), the very same Roundup you or anyone else can buy in Wal Mart, meaning it is a very safe product in regards to safety. It is therefore the most widely used herbicide in the US. There are a couple of other herbicides that are like Roundup and another one (Paraquat) that can be used for burndown only (that means killing all plants, rather than being selective like Roundup). Paraquat is extremely dangerous and has the skull and crossbones on the label, meaning it is deadly. One must also have a pesticide applicators license to purchase it. There are no natural substitutes for the above herbicides other than cultivation, which contributes to soil erosion.
