What impacts does agriculture have on ecosystems and biodiversity?

In our area we have a planned mixture of woodlots and cropland, lumber and orchards somewhat intermixed. This is in contrast to areas a short distance away where thousands of hectares of land have been cleared of any woodlands. Naturally when many sq km of land is converted to monoculture crops, no pastures, and few if any animals living on the land, herbicides and insecticides strictly limiting the set of species remaining, there will be far lsee biodiversity within any given area, presumably in the whole area. In our mixed usage, forests orchards, nut trees, field crops, hay and pasture, plus some wetlands, we do not appear to be seeing loss of diversity. Rather we see farm crops invaded by forest animals, and we certainly see field crops invaded by tree roots, growth inhibited by extensive shading. When our agriculture extension office submits a report that says we should eliminate forested lands to make more money, and our bankers get that report, we may have to comply to keep financing.
