At what age do you need to be to work on a farm- agriculture?

    I started when I was 11 but it helps if you know people and willing to start off at the bottom basically a dogsbody. If not then you will have to wait till you are at least 17 so you can drive to work etc and can drive the pick ups, quads and tractors etc I had a great time it has been the best time of my life, it is a shame the rescission has ruined it and that people want cheep products so the farmer always suffer. I moved about and some do take advantage of paying you less so be aware!!

If it is your FAMILY farm, you can be any age. if it is someone else farm, then state and local laws apply -- basically, 16 -- but without a driver's license you won't be able operate the equipment.

i would say 16 as that is when you can get a tractor licence and that is the lowest age for employment normally!

there is no real restriction. you can learn to do a lot if not all before 16. much Equipment has no licence requirement and tractors etc off-road. what does restrict is child labour laws and more importantly health and safety in uk there is the executive that where an accident has occurred it is investigated and prosecution and high fines given. if a farmer is killed by his own negligence his wife will have to pay the fine and probably it will have contravened the insurance. so those in charge have a great duty of care in allowing young to work unsupervised and instructed
