I seem to remember from school many moons ago: 79% nitrogen. (19% oxygen, and the other 2% water vapour - or vapor - and carbon dioxide - though this must by now have shot up. Also tiny amounts of inert gases - or gasses if you prefer.)

Nitrogen makes up most of the atmosphere. The rest is a number of compunds (such as carbon dioxide)

Doesn't anyone remember Mr. Spock always seeming to find Class M planets that have an oxygen/nitrogen (78%) atmosphere? How do you think they could meet and interact with all those aliens that looked like old B-list actors and actresses?
