It appears to be a fairly typical example of what is called "recentism" on Wikipedia. Hundreds of articles get created in that way. It is a product of the "information wants to be free" ethos of the "free culture" movement. However, there are a number of Wikipedia editors that do not agree with that approach, suggesting instead that time should be allowed to pass in order to allow such articles to have some degree of analysis and historical perspective.
