What is the longest Wikipedia page ever?

What is the longest wikipedia page?

  • Answer:

This changes periodically, but you can usually see a list of the longest pages, sorted by length, at < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:LongPages >. (It appears empty at the moment, but it should update eventually…) The last time I answered this question (< http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylv=3?qid=20090729141636AA3i8up >), it was "Line of succession to the British throne" at around 384 kilobytes of wikitext. Of course, this is only on the English Wikipedia; other Wikipedias will have different maxima. Among the top Wikipedias, the longest article is currently "Généalogie générale des Capétiens" from the French Wikipedia, at a huge 734,421 bytes. (< http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:Pages_longues?uselang=en >) Much of that length comes from an enormous textual family tree diagram. There's a hard limit in the software of 2 megabytes of text for a page, but it's quite rare that anything but vandalism will make a page longer than half a megabyte of wikitext.
