  • Answer:

It's fake. If you go to the page where you sign up or log in it will say "It's free and always will be,". Your fine, it's just a chainletter

its totally fake.

I admit it... I love you ♥

No, I'm sure that is just a rumour and facebook will not start charging. It's just a chain letter, because really, why would posting something on your wall make something free for you?

Stacy

its just fake your fine

*fairytails*

This is malarky...trust me Facebook would have to be complete idiots to start charging for it. Especially at this point in time with google+ opened to the public. Disregard as stupidity For confirmation of things like this you can look at snopes.com

It's a chain letter. Don't get all worried. If Facebook was going to charge you or anyone else for something they would tell you directly.

It's false as usual. These chain letters have been reappearing at regular intervals on Facebook. Just ignore them - it's complete rubbish. See links below for more information!

Alright, not only does the premise of this rumor (Facebook going premium) not make any sense, the method in which you're supposed to find out (word of mouth), and react (ALL CAPS STATUS UPDATE) are ridiculous as well. Facebook makes money through advertising and selling the demographic information of its users. More users means more money, this lead them to open their API to allow people to "Sign in with Facebook" on sites that are not Facebook (e.g. Vimeo, Flickr, Digg, etc.) as well as removing the .edu restrictions a few years ago and opening up publishers to make apps to draw in more users. A payment plan would mean less users and thus less revenue. Perhaps facebook would move towards a freemium model, wherein basic features (probably the ones we are accustomed to now) remain free where as new (costly) features, like the ability to watch On Demand Television, play MMORPGS (World of Farmville), OnLive gaming, and other perks are only available to paid subscribers. Perhaps that will debut when your profile updates to the Timeline template in a few weeks (which, as a Facebook developer, I've seen and its amazing, Google it), which would further allow for specialization between the Main News Feed in the center of the Feed Page, and the Mini News Feed in the right corner of every page. Right now they cover the same sort of stuff, but if further down the line (Facebook is still rolling things out, read: Timeline, etc) the Mini Feed focuses on more Twitteresque status updates and the like, that can let the Main Feed to house featured (paid) content. However, no information like that has leaked, and the statuses you've seen and pasted infer the more binary option of "pay or leave" versus a tiered pricing plan system. It should also be noted that Facebook will never, ever, give a damn what a bunch of people post in their status updates. They will only care if it impacts the bottom line (like if people leave Facebook). If that were the case, we'd have that "Dislike" button people have been clamoring for. Imagine the backlash Facebook would have if not only did they require a subscription, but the only way to be grandfathered in was to hear a rumor spread online and repeat the meme. No spelling errors, no official notice on the site, no second chances.
