It has to do with your or her router most likely. Is either of you having the same problem with anybody else? Have either of you changed your computer in the last few days?

Yeah get either AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger. Both allow you to add friends from other chat applications.

Grab yahoo messenger, you can add hotmail contacts on that. Otherwise go to the msn.com and grab the latest version of messenger if you don't already have it. Sometimes you can solve this with a simple re-installation or just restarting your PC.
