Most software companys don't like it when users attempt to dodge an upgrade, but Microsoft is especially bad. I recommend using something other then live messenger, but to each their own. good luck, and expect problems. Remember that when it comes to software everything is possible, and someone has probably already done it.

try reinstalling using an install file from http://www.oldversion.com/ alternatively you could use a 3rd party program for msn such as digsby or pidgen www.digsby.com http://www.pidgin.im/ adium also works well (mac only) http://www.adiumx.com/

Microsoft will get to your friends...eventually. This is a forced upgrade by Microsoft to make sure everyone has the new MSN.
