How to update windows messenger?

Want to keep Windows Live Messenger 2009, how to stop the force update?

    Menna's suggestion works, as long as you choose XP Service Pack 3 in the Compatibility tab. Vista and 7 make the prompt run again. Side note: I'm half hating Microsoft from forcing the update, but I'm glad there's a fix to this.

Yep, change the compatibility settings and it should work. I set mine as running it for Windows XP Service pack 2 It might help help with the use of add-ons instead of windows 2000 I had to do this a few times before since they force the upgrade. Sick of Windows Live being ruined with each new version.
