When someone uses 'Appear Offline' it means there appearing offline to anyone who the arnt talking to, so uh yehhh you cant see em CUZ THEY ARE APPEARING OFFLINE!!!

Well on msn, on your list of contacts you will see their screen names. If they are online you will see a little green logo, and if there are offline it will be red. Hope this helped.
