it depends on what versions you have 7.0 comes with it but thats out dated im not sure about windows live messenger though sorry

You need Journal Viewer to enable the handwriting feature in Windows Live Messenger. More info here: http://messenger-support.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!1pUFzGgzjAV-OT0jri_A%E2%80%8BqaGw!129.entry Its a bit all over the place as a bit of software, so it might still not work.
