    Hello James! Like other people have suggested, you can submit your site to the search engines. you can add it by this links http://www.google.com/addurl/ http://submit.search.yahoo.com/ but i read that for new website better to put links from another sites to your that google and yahoo by themselves find it.

when you do a website on freewebs it gives you the option to put your website on google and yahoo

You have to submitt your site on these search engines and it takes a week or so to update, You also have to submitt your site on number of directories for traffic and rank of your site. one such directory on which your link can be easily approved being new is http://www.sumodirectory.com it also a good featured featured link in which link is displayed on each page and you can submitt free link too.
