it's certainly the most popular - we try many different types on our site and i think it really depends on what your sites page is providing - adsense seems to work very well on high content pages giving advice - this also means adsense can be more accurate in its ad selection - found others such as amazon or ebay are good for specific product types

If you are talking on CPC ads, then the answer is yes. If your website have high traffic but low CTR, then it is better go for those CPM ads. Of course, some webmaster will prefer affiliate programs or paid to blog compare to PPC advertising.

Darren Rowse at Problogger.net isn't using Google Adsense. It's a matter of time and effort that pays, and not such programs.

no way. just simply list your website within google's database (its free)and add meta tags.. the more you add the more likely that you will be higher in the results.people quite often dont trust websites listed in the adsense sections.
