Why are people using wikipedia as a source?

I read somewhere that Wikipedia has an accuracy percentage of somewhere in the high 90s, better than many trusted sources. That being said, you are correct that anyone can edit the page, and I would suggest that if someone were to cite Wikipedia, they indicate the time and date of access. That way, the professor could go into the history section of the article and see what the page said at that time.

I am a content writer and I for one can not stand people using wikipedia as a reliable source of facts and figures. Although the majority of the articles are quite true, their figures, statistics, dates etc are unsubstantial and extremely unreliable.

Wikipedia is a good source, you can check out the wikipedia original sources at the bottom of the pages to check the facts if you don't believe what they say for some reason.

Because 90% of the stuff on wiki is true. Its basically a virtual encyclopedia. Look up stuff about space or the bottom of the ocean. It's filled with knowledgeable facts. If you look up Hanna Montana then yeah, chances are your not going to get what you were looking for.

Because it generally has the information people are searching for. But they do monitor it carefully, if you change something it is recorded. So not too much can go unnoticed I guess.

its easy to find and has lots of info, usually true. Their 16 employes are working hard to make sure theres no fake info ;).
