How do I delete the drop-down list of my past searches? You can clear your Google search history from the Google search box, the Google Toolbar, or your browser. We've included instructions for all three methods below. CLEARING YOUR GOOGLE SEARCH BOX HISTORY The search history that displays in the search box on the Google homepage is stored by your browser, not by Google. Instructions appear below for disabling this search history in common browsers. If your browser isn't listed, we suggest consulting its online support center. Microsoft Internet Explorer 1. Go to the "Tools" menu. 2. Select "Internet Options" and the "Content" tab. 3. Within the "Personal information" area, select "AutoComplete." 4. Click on "Clear Forms." You can also un-check the "Forms" box in this window to keep this information from being stored in the future. 5. Click "OK" to exit. Alternatively, you can delete individual entries from your search history by using the Down arrow key to highlight a previous search, then pressing the Delete key once. MSN If you're using the Microsoft Network (MSN), changes made in Internet Explorer (IE) will take effect in your MSN browser. After making changes in IE, you'll need to sign out of and back into MSN for the changes to take effect. Mozilla Firefox 1. Go to the "Tools" menu. 2. Select "Options" > "Privacy" > "Saved Form Information." 3. Click "Clear" and un-check the box. 4. Click "OK" to exit. Safari 1. Go to the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences." 2. From the menus that pop up, select "Autofill." 3. Go to "Other forms" line and select the "Edit" button. 4. From the list of sites for which AutoFill is currently being applied, select "Google.com" > "Remove" > "Done." CLEARING YOUR GOOGLE TOOLBAR HISTORY To clear your search history from the drop-down text box on the Google Toolbar: 1. Click on the Google logo on the Toolbar to access the drop-down menu. 2. Select the "Clear Search History" option. If you'd like to completely disable your Toolbar's search history, please click the "Options" button on your Toolbar and un-check the box next to "Drop-down search history." If you have Google Toolbar 4.0 installed, you can clear your Toolbar's search history by starting to enter a search term in your Toolbar's search box. When your drop-down search history appears, simply click the "Clear History" link. Please note that this only clears the search history from the Google Toolbar, which is entirely separate from the search history stored by your browser. If you've followed these steps and information still appears in your Toolbar search box as you type, please visit http://www.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=45847 for additional assistance. CLEARING YOUR BROWSER HISTORY Like your Google search box history, the search history that displays in the address bar on the Google homepage is stored by your browser, not by Google. Instructions appear below for clearing and/or disabling your search history in common browsers. If your browser isn't listed, we suggest consulting its online support center. Microsoft Internet Explorer 1. Go to the "Tools" menu. 2. Select "Internet Options" and the "General" tab. 3. Click the "Clear History" button. To completely disable the history function, set "Days to keep pages in history" to zero ("0"). 4. Click "OK" to exit. 2. Select "Options" > "Privacy" > "History." 3. Click on "Clear." To completely disable the history function, set "Remember visited pages for the last X days" to zero ("0"). 4. Click "OK" to exit. Safari 1. Click "History" on the top menu. 2. Click "Clear History" at the bottom of the menu.

Windows 98, wow, I haven't used that in quite a while. If you have tried all that you have stated you could try a file shredding application such as StompSoft's Digital File Shredder Pro. This software will allow you to permanently delete all of you histories. Here is the minimum system requirements: Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, or XP 166Mhz Processor, 64MB RAM 10MB Hard Drive Space CD-ROM Drive Supported Browsers Internet Explorer 5.0+, AOL 8.0+, Netscape 7.2+, Mozilla or Firefox You should be able to click on "Help" and the click on "About Internet Explorer" while you have an Internet Explorer window open to get information that will tell you what version of explorer you are using. Another way you may want to try is to go to the folder directly and delete the files from there. Without getting into a lengthly description about how to find the folder, I would recommend that you use the search option. On your desktop click on start then click on search. Once search is open select "all files and folders" and type "history" as your search criteria. This should bring up several folders labeled "History." All that you have to do then is open them up, see what's inside and delete away :)

if you've already tried clearing the history, temp files and cookies....here's another way to delete it without the need to download anything. use regedit. http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1009 the link shows you step by step procedure...works all the time but just be careful.

Have a close look at the icons on the tool bar. Can you see a small black upside down triangle at the side of every icon, well if you click on it a drop down menu will appear with all sorts of things on it. The one you want is on the left of the search box. look for options and personalize your tool bar. you can also highlight the search and press delete on your keyboard. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/toolbar/basics/toolbar-10.html You can also go to tools>>internet options and delete cookies, temp files, and history.

Go to Help and select "About Internet Explorer" and that will tell you what version you are using. Once you know the IE version, go here for instructions in that IE version using 98 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157729/en-us

If you want to find out what version your IE is, click on help on the top toolbar and then click on About. As I don't know exactly what you've done, here are some ideas. Are all addresses kept in the address bar or is it a particular site that's kept there? If it's a particular site, maybe you have a spyware/worm problem. Also, if the below doesn't work or you've already tried it, you might go to the micosoft web site and search their knowledge database. If I were you I'd physically go to the file where the cookies and the internet files are kept and try manually deleting them. Using the tool in IE doesn't always work if you have an older version of IE. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then click SETTINGS under Temporary Internet Files, then click the Folder. It will open the folder where the cookies and files are. Also, set your "days to keep in history" to 0. As a last resort, you could try to upgrade your edition of IE to the latest one.

When you clear history, you have only cleared up to that point. To eliminate history at shutdown, click Tools, Internet Options -- look down a bit to "days to keep pages in history" and set it to 0. History should be clean when you power on and should empty at shutdown. There will, of course, be a list while you are online unless you clear history periodically while online. I just tried it and this works. I have a PC with WinXP and am presently working on my old PC with Win98. No problem here. Give it another try.
