Haiti. Denounce your citizenship as an American, move to Haiti, become a Haitian citizen, then help rebuild the country, then find a child who is an orphan. Right now, its too soon to tell if anyone is a TRUE orphan. If you want a child, adopt through your local foster care. They have no one.

Why not "adopt" several Haitian children, women and men by donating to the Red Cross instead? http://www.redcross.org/

While I appreciate the desire to help the victims of the earthquake, adoption is not the way to do it right now. People desperately need food, water, shelter, and medical supplies before they can find out who is and who isn't an orphan. The legal system is destroyed and cannot handle adoption, and the airport is filled with planes carrying aid, they can't ship children to America for adoption. Please feel free to help by sending food, water, medical supplies, or donating to the red cross.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH! This question is getting so freaking annoying! donate the *thousands* you would spend on adopting ONE child from Haiti and help HUNDREDS of families stay together. Then you can still adopt from U.S Foster care. There our thousands of foster care kids to choose from right here. I really think people are lacking common sense. Have you ever heard of a search bar? This question has been asked 1000 times already. They need to open a new section for Haiti related questions.

if i see one more question asking about adopting a haitian kid, i'll scream!

The money you spend on adopting 1 Haitian child would clothe, feed, and educate hundreds of orphans. Sponsor a child.

WOW! I cannot believe how unkind some of the answers are on here. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. I think it is wonderful that anyone would want to do anything to help the poor Haitian orphans. I too would love to know how to go about trying to adopt one.

Fisrt of all, yes, the Haitian people need immediate help in every way right now. But, there are children who will need to be adopted. Any stable, American family who wants and can adopt, should step forward. This is a good thing. My husband and I have raised a family and have grandchildren. I have been thinking about adopting a child from Haiti and I brought it up to my husband. We have plenty to share and I have in mind to speak to my sons and daughter about this. If we should die, then we would want them to care for the child as their own. I would like to make a difference in the later part of my life. THERE IS NOTHING wrong with wanting to adopt....it is a good thing if a child is parentless in a torn country. I am going to contact the State Department and orphanages in Haiti to start.
