Answer:
No. Prior to the earthquake, Haiti had a very strict adoption policy with very strict guidelines. After the earthquake, Haiti is in no position to do adoptions.

Shouldn't you be out drinking and seeing how many frat boys you can snog? No. You cannot adopt a Haitian infant, but thanks for the laugh.

You are in college. This must take up a tremendous amount of your time. In order to raise a child, you are going to have to have money. If you are going to college, AND working, that isn't going to give you much time to raise the child yourself. And on the topic of Haiti... These children have been through a tragedy, and the last thing they need is for someone to pull them out away from everything they've ever known and take them somewhere completely unfamiliar. Many of the children who are in care currently have families who have the right to care for them. Say you adopted a child from Haiti, and their parents had been lost in the quake, but were later found. Would you be willing to give the child back so that they could be raised with their own family? Just grow up and concentrate on your education. There is plenty of time for child-raising when you are older and more stable. And you are likely not old enough, nor would you have the money available to adopt unless you are independently wealthy.

What could you offer a child who has lost her homeland and family? NOTHING. That's what. The hubris...

By Haitian adoption law you are too young to adopt any child from Haiti.. ...<quote>... """The current Constitutional law regarding adoption reads as follows (translation): Article 2. Adoption is only allowed for people of both sexes who are older than 35. However, it can also be requested by a married couple who are not separated, as long as at least one of them is over age 35, if they have been married more than ten years, and do not have any [biological] children from this marriage. The adopters should have neither children nor descendants on the day of the adoption. The adopters should be 19 years older than the people they propose to adopt, unless the latter are the children of their spouse. In this case, the minimum age difference required shall be no more than ten years and may even be less if given a dispensation by the Head of State. Article 3. Without the dispensation of the President for Life of the Republic, adoption is only permitted in the absence of legitimate or biological descendants; It was written in 1974 by Jean Claude Duvalier. Parquet district court in Port-au-Prince began refusing to legalize adoptions authorized by IBESR to parents who did not conform to the law of 1974. Families who do not conform to the law must be granted a Presidential Dispensation in order to legally adopt a child. Families which do not meet the law of 1974 and yet are pre-approved by IBESR will have their dossiers submitted for Presidential Dispensation. At this time there is no consistent estimate for the waiting time for a Dispensation. The first Presidential Dispensations were granted in January of 2009. """

Wow YOU'RE noble. puke. Do something really noble and send money to the families where those babies belong. Haven't you heard? Not everything is for sale or up for grabs. I think Walmart sells plastic babies though...

Right now? No. They are not letting anyone adopt any children from Haiti right now. The only kids leaving that country are the ones who were adopted before the earthquake (meaning their paperwork and legal things were finished). Haitian adoptions take 15 months-3 years from start to finish. (2 and a half years is the average waiting time) The best way to help right now is to donate money to the RedCross, or to HopeForHaitiNow.org Also, there is an orphange in Port-au-Prince that is accepting money donations, as well as other supplies: CLOTH diapers, wipes, formula, outfits (short sleeves and shorts) for ages 1-14, both male and female. They ask that you also donate $2-3 per pound of stuff you ship, because they pay for for shipping. And if they don't receive any money, they have to take it out of their food budget. The orphanage is His Home For Children. Google them for the address.

No, there isn't. Nor should there be. It will be months before families are reunited and anyone even knows which kids have been orphaned. It's great you want to help. Now go look into "child sponsorship" which is a far more appropriate way for you to help.
