think of "dark" emotions and how they make you feel. then convey them into a message of words. you just kinda have to let it come to you i guess, lol. also, music can provide inspiration. i wrote a peom when i listened to the piano song called "kiss the rain" by yiruma. try it if ya want. good luck

If you want a level of maturity in your poems - You should read as much poetry as you can get your hands on. And I don't mean what sad kids write on the internet. I know it's a pain, and awkward, but if you ask a librarian to recommend "good, dark poetry" - they'll be very happy to give you as many books as you like. Read what the greats have done, then you'll be able to tell if what you're writing is any good.

As a writer myself, I'd say the best way to write poems is to simply just sit yourself down in a quiet spot where you shall not be disturbed and just start writing. If words don't come, you can always use other sources as inspiration. I personally listen to music, instrumentals in particular, to write poems and fiction. This may sound odd, but video game soundtracks have been great for my writing. Check out some Yasunori Mitsuda (Kirite is by far my favorite) and Nobuo Uematsu. Also, as a final tip, I'd say to just write on random phrases. For example I've written rather cool poems on phrases lie "Lament of Innocence" or "Innocence of Silence" or "Of Light and Darkness." It's really all about experimentation and don't feel shy about reading other poems too for inspiration. Hope this helped.~

You can't just make an idea come, you have to have inspiration; realize where you've gotten inspiration before-or research your own memories, maybe- and then usually the lines come to you, if it's powerful enough. But if it isn't, you have to mold the clay a little on your own. Look at how other people do it. Take a look at some famous poems, and see what you like about theirs and maybe (Don't copy) take a hint from that bit.

All poems don't rhyme... Except Dr.suce but that's because there weird some times to write a good poem it all has to lead up to the big point... and it should come from the Heart with that in mind you will have GREAT poems ~mlynn13
