Where Should I Start to get my car into racing?

ask yourself which kind of racing you want to do ! Drag racing is strictly going straight. Not as easy as it sounds if you have a nice bit of power under you.For drag racing the first things you should do to get started is adding more power to your motor. BUT when you add power other stuff will break ! first to go will most likely be your clutch or transmission then your rear end and axles . you cant just add 300 hp to a stock car and have it last. My 02 trans am ws6 has heads cam full exhaust aps turbo kit moser 9 inch full spool 31 spline rear end. Built t56 transmission , textrilla clutch and a nice set of mickeys . Spend around 30 K runs low tens all day. Suspension is not as important for drag racing as long as the car hooks and goes straight you will be alright. I also have suspension parts to make my car hook a little better. but not as much as you need with cornering. If your going to be drifting or cornering you will want to put alot of money into your suspension as well as your motor . Tires are also a very important thing.

First off for starters you need to know if you can handle the speed without freezing up and causing an accident with other drivers. Second is it drag racing if it is you need to contact NHRA for their rules and regulations handbook. Third is wheather you really want to get into going into a straight line once you start it becomes a very expensive habit or hobby depending on how it grabbs you. Finally if you are looking at getting into a class that requires a NHRA issued license that is just one more thing you have to gain before they will let you run down the track...... this comes from the exp. of seeing my father go through all of this, most recently he has discovered he will no longer be able to race due to torn retinas.... which is a common injury due to the G force from nitro cars launching from the starting line. I forgot to mention that i was involved in dirt track racing for 10 yrs. so some of the above applies to that also. It becomes a very expensive hobby
