Let's just figure that you already own a kart, helmet, tools, and some spare parts. Travel expenses like gasoline and food can add up. Entry fees can be a bit high depending on the class you run in. Then you also need a pit pass for you and whoever else is part of your team. I've seen both ends of the spectrum. One track requires you to buy a new set of tires every weekend just to be competitive, while another track you might need to buy a tire only once in a while. The cost will be different depending on if you're running dirt or asphalt, oval, or road course. In my experience, maintaining a dirt kart was more expensive than asphalt. I haven't even mentioned a trailer to haul your stuff in. Many people use a pick up truck or small station wagon, while others have a trailer full of karts and spare parts.
