Start off with go-carts. Much more affordable. See if you like it and good at it. Can be in a good ride for about 2 thousand. Then move up to dirt tracks.

Karting is the best place to start, look for outdoor karting track as these usually have the more competative karts. You will probably need at least 2 years in a karting class of some sort then you may need an agent to get you drives for single seater small engine vehicles, form there you can move onto either touring cars or the larger engined single seaters

Go to your local track and hang out. Buy a used entry level car (street stock. Detroit Iron, bomber, etc). You're a little old to start in go-carts if you plan on moving up to full size autos. And a good cart will set you back $2000 or more. A used entry level car can be less. Good luck and stay safe.

Well... if you want to get into F1 you should have started kart racing at age 8.. then get into a junior formula and then perhaps formula3, GP2, and finally F1.

The best way is to research what the other racing drivers did when they first started out. If you look at thier biographys, you will get a better knowledge of the best ways to suceed. Here is one for you to look at about Lewis Hamilton. http://www.lewishamilton.com/biography.htm

Carts or Autocrossing. Both will teach you a LOT about handling and acceleration. After that, get involved with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) at http://scca.org/home.aspx Through them you can get into a wide variety of track events and driver's schools.

I would agree to the go-karts as a place to start. Depending on where you live, asphault go-karts are the way to go. That said, I live in the midwest and some of today's best drivers have dirt backgrounds (i.e Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart). Dirt can teach you some car control that hard surface racing can't and vise-versa. I spent an average of $10-15,000 per year in the speedway (dirt) go-karts and I was underfunded compared to some teams. I won a regional title on that budget, but I had no desires to go "big time" as I was just too old to get that kind of a career going... Best of luck and DO NOT let anyone tell you that you can't do this. It will take time and dedication, but if you believe in your heart that you will make it big, then YOU WILL!

start at the local short track, running a legends cars and move up from there as long as the money and your talent takes you
