What does Advisory mean in middle school classes?

Advisory is your first class or your homeroom class. In some schools, the advisory class could be your first period class (i.e. your science teacher could also be your advisory teacher) or it could just be a class that you go to in the mornings, the teacher takes roll, and then you leave his/her class and go to your first period (You don't stay there for an actual subject). Have fun in 6th grade! Edit: Where is it at on your schedule? The beginning or in the middle? Because apparently advisory means something different here than everywhere else...
