  • Answer:

DUDE bad idea to just run until you physically cannot anymore!! you have to jog slow and steady everyday and then soon you can run 4 miles without stopping. when it's cold like that, STRETCH before, during your jog, and definately after

A few days training won't mean very much. It's most likely going to tire you out so that the actual run will be more difficult. But, since you asked. First, the running part... you say you are running in formation, I'm not sure what that means, but if you can, start running SLOWLY and gradually build pace as you go. Your goal is to finish while you're running, not walking. In running, we talk about "negative splits" and what that means is that your second half is run faster than your first half. Do that if you can. Forget about walking to the track and then running. That won't work. here's my suggestion, alternate running and walking for your training. Walk five minutes to warm up, then jog five minutes (or one minute if that's all you can do), then walk for another five, then run, etc. You nee to do this for about 45 minutes. Again, do it SLOWLY. Do not "run until I can't run anymore". Most runners don't do it at a track because it's too boring. Run in the streets of your town. There's a lot to look at and it will go by much faster. Clothing, wear a hat and gloves. Do you have some of those glove liners you wear while skiing or snowboarding? If so, they are great running gloves. Also, wear a ski hat to keep your head warm. If you have some polypro long underwear then wear both a top and bottom. Beware of cotton short sleeve shirts. Cotton, when wet is very cold. Wear a polypro under it if you can. Same with the pants. Good luck, you should have started training two months ago. Your ability to survive and even thrive in basic training will be determined by the shape you are in. Work out like a maniac. Run as much as you can, lift weights, build core strength.

Wow. Maybe I should run too if someone out there is willing to run in 30 degree temperatures. I am a recreational runner and I have run 5ks. Which is roughly 3 miles and 200 meters. I run it at a certain pace and I am not tired when I finish. I run a 5k under 20 minutes, around 19 minutes. A lot of runners that prefer 10ks will say a 5k is a sprint. I never felt it was a sprint. I run my 5k at the same pace I run a 10k. So I dont get why so many people say this. You are really dedicated to run so much in such cold weather. I am done riding my bike for this year because its down to 30 degrees where I live. I tried this last year and ended up lying in my bed after a two hour ride, shuttering for about an hour wondering if I am about to have a seizure. And I was dressed for cold weather. I am not even running at this time. But makes me wonder if its possible now that you write this. I was just looking into buying some indoor trainers for my bike.

depending on the temp. it might be, that would be good for a 30-40 degree day when it's windy, because it is light, and warm. If its under 30, then i would highkly suggest long underwear.

Whatever you do DO NOT wear a scarf when you run. It will kill you! Do wear a beanie hat, pants, and a jacket that isn't that thick. You will feel warm because you body will be heated.
