Is paste waxing a snowboard just as good as hot waxing.?

Hot waxing is definitely always a better option. Hot waxing gets the wax into the pours on your base that help protect it and help it last longer. paste wax is better than nothing but when you have the time you should always do a hot way instead. I suggest hertel hot sauce wax. Best stuff out there.

Paste is never as good as hot wax and is more of a temporary fix. Reason being is that the base of your board is porous and heat allows the wax to get into the pores. Paste just covers the surface. That's fine if you don't have the time or just need a quick touch up, but for best and longest lasting results hot wax is the way to go. I wax my own board, but once every while I find a chic who'll wax my board for me. :) Sorry, anyways... The stuff I use lasted me 3 years and gets better results than any shop that I've taken my board to. 1) High-fluoro, all temp wax - $20. 2) Iron (adjustable temp, purchased at Wall Mart) - $5. 3) Small windshield ice scraper - $2. 4) Old credit card - $0, free in the mail. If you want to go the same route, here are a couple of tips. Keep the iron temp on Synthetics or lower, if wax starts to smoke, then the temp is too high - turn it down a notch or two. Don't use too much wax, more wax equals more scraping and not better results. Spread the wax evenly with the iron, go over twice if needed. Scrape with the windshield scraper first in nose-to-tail motion (this is important!). Scrape off minor remains of wax with a credit card in the same nose-to tail motion. Remove as much wax as possible. Take your time the first few times, once you get used to the process it will take only 15 minutes from start to finish. Good luck.
