Choose at your local ski/snowboard area a package that includes the lessons, lift tickets and equipment. I teach in the Seattle area, we have several areas with a package for beginners in the $119 to $150 range for 2-3 lessons. Clothing, gloves and helmets are a little more for the helmet, the gloves and goggles and clothes you supply. After the package is complete, you should have the skills to ride the beginners chair and slide down under control. This means you should be able to balance on the board, turn heel side and toe side and stop. Linking turns in both directions and developing the muscle memory to ride well takes time, more than just a few hours, more like several days.

I can get pretty pricey. So i would suggest going to craigslist.org and looking up for a cheap setup. Don't take anything over 350$ or else its a boughs deal man.
