Should I get a wide board or riser plates on my snowboard?

  • I'm thinking of getting a snowboard and am a size 15 shoe. Would it be better to get a wide board or put riser plates under the bindings. What are the consequences of riser plates?

    Honestly you might need both. But try a wide snowboard first. I wear a 12 and ride a wide board. I use Ride CAD bindings, they lift my feet up because they have the pad on them. Get a wide board and riser's and if you don't need riser plates return them. The only downside I can think of with riser plates is possibly less responsiveness but it would be really hard to notice on a wide board. Some toe and heel overhang is fine, you are always going to have that.

I would be for a wide board over the riser pads, it looks better and you will have more board feel and control. Check out Nitro boards, they tend to make decks for the guy with a larger foot or something like the elan el grande, which is the widest board on the market from memory.

Measure your boot bottom length in mm first. Then check all the snowboards that you are interested (wide ones of course) in and see if their waist width satisfies your boot length. I wouldnt get riser plates because, I dunno, I just think they're silly.
