Do you need to detune your edges on the Lib Tech Skate Banana?

Do you need to detune your edges on the Lib Tech Skate Banana?

  • Is it necessary to detune a Skate Bananas edges? If so how do you do it? And also is there a special edge sharpener tool for Magnatraction edges??

  • Answer:

if by detune you mean the technical term then yes you should de-tune it. Cause technically you should de-tune all new snowboards, to de-tune in essence means to round off the non effective edge near the nose and tail of the snowboard. They're not needed for carving and are often the sole cause of catching an edge early on in a turn. As for a special tool for sharpening libtech carries one for magnetraction, pretty much any board shop that sells gnu or libtech should carry it.

All new boards come with and edge that is pretty sharp. What i would do is go ahead and detune your board since its brand new and you dont want to take any chances and catch your edge on a rail. Detuning an edge is the same for all boards. Just get a small file of some sort and begin rounding your edges so that its not sharp. If you need to see a demonstration, just look over at www.youtube.com and type in "Detuning snowboard edges" and you should come up with a couple of good hits.
