  • Answer:

skiing-easier to pick up (to point of parallel turns), harder to master (from learning to carve), not as fun, easier for lifts and moving around on flats snowboarding-harder to pick up (to point of turning), easier to master (from learning to carve), the more fun of the two, harder for lifts and flat spots, not as fast, equipment is cheaper

I've done both and for me at least snowboarding is definitely more fun. for you skiing might be better though. if you've gone 3 times and can only snowplow it seems like you don't catch on too quickly with carving. snowboarding is much harder to start out on because you need much more balance and it feels awkward riding down the hill sideways at first. the one thing you will be able to do easier is stop but you probably won't be able to go straight much from the sound of it. You will probably just be riding down sideways most the way just like snowplowing on skis. Snowboarding is better and you will eventually get the hang of it if you stay dedicated. but if you're going to be going less than 5 times a year, i suggest sticking with skiing and mastering that.
