Well, you don't need a scraper for the rub on snowboarding wax. All you have to do is rub it on,and after a while, rub it on again. Beware,it doesn't last long,so I would advise you to wake it frequently to make sure it gives you a smooth run.

A Girl Who Snowboards

I'm no chemical or bio engineer but I understand that ski wax is actually a mixture of different waxes and compounds that create a wonderful anti friction mix. Most waxes are formulated to be best used in a certain temp range. There are a few generic all temp waxes too. The actual ingredients can range from the most common to some very hard to obtain items. This is why I've seen wax prices range from a few bucks for a big block on up to $150 or $180 for just a few ounces. I once raced in an international race in Switzerland where the World Cup guys were using the expensive stuff for a very specific type of snow and ambient temperature. As you'd expect, I didn't win. But I didn't come in last either. Unless you're racing you really don't need the pricey stuff. If you're short on cash, you prolly have enough time to shop several ski shops for the least expensive. I don't know if it would work for the colder winter months but I used to use a block of paraffin from Walmart or any craft store for late spring and slush conditions. I do know that some more expensive waxes absolutely cannot be ironed into the ski base or it may release bad stuff in the air. Here is a link to a webpage I found that might help: http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:NwsqhNJrCrwJ:tognar.com/+flouro+wax+ski+no+iron&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us Scrapers - they are nothing more than a perfectly straight piece of plastic. You really could use the side of a plastic clipboard if you wanted. But most of us use a ski or board scraper from a ski shop. I just wouldn't recommend a metal one - they are more for scraping the extra p-tex pieces off the base before waxing the base.
