    Well you can never be too careful so I suggest you rent the first time and see how you like it , if u decide u like it budget it out and see if the prices are reasonable for your budget and really think about how many times you will actually go and snowboard. If not then your gear will just be an addition to your garage . So I suggest you rent the first time and budget the costs of everything before you decide to buy the equipment :)

It depends how good you are and how much you take care of your things you own. If you are a clutz and don't take good care of your things then I recommend renting your snowboards. If you are good and are careful with your things I recommend buying your own snowboard. Keep in mind that buying just might not save you money. If you mess your boards up then you will end up dishing more money out on your snowboard.

If your going to use it just for fun and think that your not likely want to be serious about it, you can just rent! But if you want a time to time fun and adventure then, most probably much better to buy, it's much lesser than to rent every time you feel like riding.
