Answer:
It's more weight than height. 220 pounds he'll need a big board to move it around more easily. I'd go 163-165. Ask one of the guys at the shop if they seem knowledgeable.

I would enlist the help of his friends that go boarding with him. A lot depends on what type of riding he likes to do. Does he ride the park a lot? Or is he a fan or riding trees? Or does he stay to the groomed runs? Or does he ride mostly backcountry powder? Ask his friends what they would recommend as far as type of board and if they know if he has any particular board in mind for his "dream board". What size board you buy will depend on what type of board, and also his height/weight ratio and foot size. Because he weighs quite a bit for his height, you need to either get him a longer, wider, or stiffer board than normal. You can check out the Nitro website, they have a size/weight chart for all their boards. For me personally, I'm just a cruiser, I don't do jumps or the park so I chose an all mountain board.

Good question, I own Daddies Board Shop and I am 5'7 as well. I usually ride a 158cm size board for powder and carving. This is a great all around size for riding the entire mountain i.e. trails, jumps, and powder runs. What foot size does your husband have? If he has a 11 or large he can go with a large width "waist width" board that will fit his foot better. This will reduce what is called "toe drag" and will also stiffen the board a little so the flex is right for his weight. Hope this helps you out. No. It should be ATLEAST up to the bottom of his nose. I'm 5'2" and I have a 153. I'd say probably a 60 - 63 should do the trick. My brand reccomendations... Marrow. Great quality. Not to pricy. Lasts a really long time too.
