its never to late to learn even though the earlier the better but its always a good time to learn. But for a board dont buy a really good board your first year try finding a nice used board for your first couple years then once you get better and know alot more about it then you will be able to get a really nice board. You could find a a board with bindings for 200 to 350 that is nice and used that will work good. Look around and talk to people about the size that you need because that will be really important. And also for your first time you will fall and fall even more dont get discouraged after just keep working at it and soon you will get the hang of it and will really be tearing up the mountain

its not to late to learn but dont buy the most expensive board on the market then you just look like a complet posser but start out with something cheaper because your gonna ding up the bottom on jibs and on jupms some times so go with one that costs about 300-450 that should be the right price range but you also need to consider your height and your weight. if you dont do this you might end up with a board that is to advanced and is harder to use.

It's never too late to learn, I switched from skiing to boarding when I was 18. A really good snowboard would cost anywhere between $400 and $550 retail. Of course if you wait until the end of the season or buy the previous season's model these can be discounted. This is a good deal, as the board is the same but the price goes down. You can of course spend more, but it's not necessary. You can get quality bindings between $150-$200, and same for boots. Again, they are on sale at the end of the season, or if you buy older gear, and you can always but more expensive versions too, but these prices will get you solid, quality gear.
