Where can i get my snowboard waxed?

How often should i get my snowboard waxed and how often sharpened?

  • i go snowboarding at resorts like every other weekend and when i go i snowboard for about 4 hours how often should i get it sharpened and how often waxed

  • Answer:

You don't really need anyone to do it for you, just do it yourself. Buy some snowboard wax and a edge sharpener tool and do it once a week, that's what i do.

You can feel when your board needs waxing just by the way it rides. Hot wax usually stays on my board for a few days of riding so you should be able to have it done once a month, but if you feel that the wax is gone do it sooner. I have mine sharpened whenever they are waxed. Also, I strongly recommend you have it done at a tuning center. It may cost more but its a lot cheaper than if you mess up the base of your board and have to have it fixed.

dont waste your money on rub on wax it lasts one run. get it hot waxed every 3-4 trips depending on the type of riding you do. youll feel your board getting slow and that means it needs a wax. EDIT i sharpen my edges every time i wax

here's advice from someone that knows and can elaborate...you can never OVERWAX your board...and contrary to what the noobs said 90% of the time you cannot visually see when you need a waxing unless you went over some rocks, trees, ice, or you didn't let the wax set into the pores long enough and the wax flakes off. A truly waxed board should feel similar to an unwaxed board but the only difference is at a microscopic level because a proper waxing melts the wax into the pores, and then you scrape off the top layer, meaning when you hit the snow you'll slide better than if you didn't have wax on...Also, a lot of times you can't tell just by riding because in icy conditions you're going to fly down the mountain anyways, but in powdery conditions (unless it's wet snow) your board will naturally stick to the snow until gravity takes you. well with one exception being if your base is completely stripped of any waxed surface at which point you may need to get a new board or have your base repaired. as far as sharpening...you'll know when you need to sharpen...if you're edges aren't biting into the snow like they should...or you went through a series of days with ice your edges will dull out. Also how you ride, how hard you ride, and what surfaces you ride on are the basic determining factors in when and how often you wax. Me, to play it safe, I wax every other trip, and sharpen once every 10 unless i hit some really bad terrain. oh yea, p.s. never use rub on, or spray on wax...never have them stick your board through a buffer neither...the best wax is a hot wax using all-temp wax with an iron and slowly melting the wax into the base of your board and letting sit for no less than 20 minutes.

Rub the board with your finger, if it squeaks then you're good. I go once a week and I reapply rub on wax before every trip. If you get iron-on wax I would say it could last 2-3 trips. Sharpened? I have no idea.
