Where is the best place to go snowboarding?

I live in florida but I really want to go snowboarding where is the best place next to florida to go?

  • what time of year would be the best but also cheap?

  • Answer:

I think the nearest "big mountain" boarding you'll find is Snowshoe, WV. As Adam wrote, maybe NC or Tenn. Best bet is Colorado (Summit County). Cheap is a relative term. Airfare, lodging, lift tickets, food, etc. adds up quick. Early (December) and late (April) season is when you'll find the best deals.

Other answers

There are places in North Carolina and Tennessee that are good for snow boarding/skiing. I can't really think of anything right next to Florida though.

I live in georgia so i know what your going through. Cataloochee Mountain is a really good beginner mountain and is only in North Carolina. The staff there is really good also so i would recommend it.

You are so far from any snowboard resorts you might as well go somewhere decent that has reliable snow conditions and good facilities for beginners. If you lived in WV, NC, NJ or Pa it might be worth visiting nearby resorts, but not from Florida. Somewhere like Killington in New England is worth considering, but the best skiing with the most reliable snow conditions are in the Rockies or in the Alps (in Europe). In the Rockies Breckenridge or Copper Mountain would be my recommendation. In Europe Cortina, Lech or Wengen would be my recommendations.
