  • Answer:

Expert ability is not the most important part of being an instructor. Ability to demonstrate good form is a large part of it, but there is a good chance you will be teaching beginners. The most important part of instructing is being able to communicate effectively with your students. The guy is obviously satisfied with your skill level, or he would not have invited you to apply. Old joke from the very early days of snowboarding. Things have changed a lot now. What's the difference between a beginner snowboarder and an instructor? 5 days.

absolutely go for it...first time riders wont ne learning jumps afterall so you probably have more than adequate skills to teach...this might be the start of something bigger later on, with this experience you can be teaching at Killington next winter, ha ha...

Go for it. You should be careful looking for work, you may find it. The training you go through will teach you how and what to teach to most of your students. Most of your students will be people who have never been on skis or on a snowboard. You do not need to be a great rider to be a great instructor. You do need to be able to demonstrate the basics you need to teach. The area will not usually assign you a class that is beyond your ability. What will happen is you will become a much better rider and polish your skills through this season.

There's a pretty big "gray area" here, where everything isn't either black or white. Because you will be responsible for someone else's well being should they take a bad fall (yes, the guy in charge should be insured, but you never know how someone would react if they are injured and think it's your fault. They could go after you instead!!), I don't know whether I would do this. My other question is: Is there a chance that this person wants you for other reasons ? I ask because I don't want to see you getting hurt or being taken advantage of (or worse). When you think about it ... if I had a snowboard business and needed an instructor, the last person I would want is someone who told me point blank that they didn't think they could do it. Also, why, you hafta ask yourself, does this guy think that he "really needs a female instructor"? I don't mean to sound paranoid or anything, but a girl can't be too careful these days, ya know? I'm just sayin' ...

Most people getting lessons are usually learning for the first or second time how to ride a snowboard, I think if you can ride fluently regular, and just practice some on the switch riding, you should be fine.
